This class is required for dispatchers who want to instruct POST sponsored classes.  The POST Instructor Development Program provides the knowledge and skills to design, develop, and implement training courses. The newly designed course is founded on best practices of evidence-based learning, which include professionalism in training, the neurobiology of learning, active learning strategies, and competency evaluation.

The classroom facilitator course builds on the concepts of evidence-based professional learning, including facilitating classroom engagement through activities, assessments, classroom management, and technology integration. Participants will be given the opportunity to develop a classroom instructional strategy that incorporates skills obtained in the course.

Course Goals
-Review the importance of professionalism in training
-Utilize neurobiology of learning to improve outcomes
-Facilitate active professional learning
-Manage a dynamic professional learner classroom
-Deliver effective assessments for competency
-Developing an instructional plan
-Effectively use technology to increase engagement
-Evaluation and feedback strategies

Completion of the course will require an oral and written skills based presentation in which the dispatcher needs to achieve 70% or greater to pass.  Participants will need access to a laptop equipped with presentation software (PowerPoint, Google slides, etc.…) as well as a thumb drive on which they can save their presentation.  This course will require additional time outside of the classroom to complete assignments.

Reporting Instructions
Dress code for attending POST classes is a neat, clean, and professional appearance.  Slacks, shirts with collars, and/or department uniform can be worn.  No shorts, cut-offs, open toe shoes, sweats, tank tops, or t-shirts are permitted.
